Struggling to spark creativity? As a creative I know all too well the feeling of creative block.

My entire job is to be consistently “on it” with pooping out creative gold nuggets, it can be fairly exhausting. This is why when you look at any designer, studio or agency’s work they can all start to look the same. It’s become far to common for creatives to rely on the internet, design books or magazine subscriptions for inspiration which aren’t bad things, they’ definitely are great tools, but you need more than just sitting at your desk scrolling and flipping pages.

✨Something that always made me unique as a designer especially in my college years was my ability to play off screen and create. I actually use to be really bad at using computers and any technology for that matter so I really relied on my artistic abilities to come up with unique ideas.

🎨 If I’m feeling like I’ve run into a creative block I know it’s time to get off my screens and go back to the basics. I have always enjoyed mixed media so I save every magazine,catalogue random stickers or menus i found looked cool rand go to town with scissors, markers and paint creating truly unique pieces of art.

🎵💃🏻 I always have great music on and I do get up and dance it out which always feels soo good. It’s all about creating an experience that’s different from your normal day to day. I’ve always found My brain rewards me when I move our body.

✨These activities achieve 2 things for me in dissolving creative block:

1. When I create off screen it becomes fun and I get into a flow state like in the movie Soul, where I don’t think about anything and just let my subconscious take over.

2. You’re participating in an experience. As creatives it’s important to participate in experiences so you can strengthen your empathy in the world you live in. ✨🪄

Client shout out! Last year we finished a website for United Telehealth. They integrate telemedicine services into a practitioners existing processes and workflow.

It was important to keep this design clean and simple to provide a focused presentation of information. This is important for something complicated like neonatology services.

The target audience for this website are practice managers who want to integrate telehealth into their practices, so this can’t be overly complicated.
